NBCUniversal has acquired Hugh Laurie drama Chance for a raft of its international nets.
NBCUniversal International Networks (NBCUIN) has bought the series for its nets in the UK, France, Germany, Spain and Poland.
Poland will be the first to launch the series next month.
The series has The Night Manager and House star Hugh Laurie as a forensic neuro-psychiatrist who gets dragged into a world of violence and crime. It is based upon the Kem Nunn thriller and went out on Hulu in the US.
Chance is produced by Fox 21 Television Studios and Groundswell Productions, and distributed by from Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution, which struck the NBCUIN deal.
NBCU did not specify which of its nets it would transmit Chance on in all territories, but will be on Universal Channel in the UK.
The studio’s stable of channels includes Universal Channel, Syfy, E! Entertainment Television, 13th Street, DIVA, Studio Universal, Telemundo, Bravo, DreamWorks and Golf Channel.

Universal Channel has landed the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to Chance, the Hugh Laurie (House) fronted psychological thriller which airs state-side on streaming service Hulu, TVWise has learned.
Based on the novel of the same name by Kem Nunn, Chance is described as a provocative, psychological thriller that focuses on Dr. Eldon Chance (Hugh Laurie), a San Francisco-based forensic neuropsychiatrist who reluctantly gets sucked into a violent and dangerous world of mistaken identity, police corruption and mental illness.
The drama series was developed for television by Nunn and Alexandra Cunningham and is produced for Hulu by Fox 21 Television Studios. In addition to Hugh Laurie the cast also include Gretchen Mol (Boardwalk Empire), LisaGay Hamilton (The Practice), Paul Adelstein (Scandal), Ethan Suplee (My Name Is Earl) and Stefania LaVie Owen (The Carrie Diaries). The executive producers are Alexandra Cunningham, Kem Nunn, Lenny Abrahamson, Michael London, Hugh Laurie and Brian Grazer. Hulu has already renewed Chance for a second season.
This marks the second major acquisition for Universal Channel in the last month, after they previously picked up the latest entry in Dick Wold’s Chicago franchise, Chicago Justice. The deal for Chance was struck with international distributor Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution by Universal’s parent company NBCUniversal International Networks, who also picked up the show for their channels in France, Germany, Spain and Poland. The agreement between NBCU and Fox covers both seasons one and two.
